How to pass DTS 399

  • Start looking for a placement a full semester early — the good data-related placements go first and generic clerical placements waste your six units
  • Fill the logbook the same day, every day. Reconstructing five months of entries the week before submission is obvious to any examiner and costs marks
  • Ask to be given at least one end-to-end task you own; a placement where you only observed is very hard to write six units of report about
  • Treat SIWES as final-year project reconnaissance — the best projects come from a real problem you saw at your placement
